Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to the questions we hear every day at our Nugegoda office.

General

Is the first consultation really free?

Yes — your first counselling session is completely free with no obligation. We only charge when you decide to proceed with a service package.

Where is your office and when are you open?

19A Thalapathpitiya Road, Nugegoda. Open Monday to Sunday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM. Walk-ins are welcome, but booking ahead guarantees a dedicated counsellor.

Do you handle visit and work visas too?

Our primary focus is student visas and study-abroad services, but we also assist with visitor visas for family members and rejection appeals across categories.

Study Abroad

Which country is cheapest for Sri Lankan students?

Canada (public colleges) and regional Australia/NZ typically offer the best total cost. Germany is nearly tuition-free but has different entry requirements — ask us about it in counselling.

Can I study abroad after O/Ls?

Yes — foundation programs in the UK, Australia and NZ accept post-O/L students, creating a bridge into bachelor's degrees. A/L students can enter diplomas or direct year-one entry.

Are scholarships available for Sri Lankans?

Many partner universities offer automatic merit scholarships of 10–30% based on A/L or degree results. Graduate assistantships exist in the US and Canada. We shortlist what you qualify for.

How early should I start preparing?

Ideally 8–12 months before your target intake: 1–2 months for tests, 2–3 months for applications and offers, then 2–3 months for visa processing and financials.

Visas

My visa was rejected before. Can LGA help?

Yes — rejections usually stem from fixable documentation or credibility issues. We review the refusal letter line-by-line, rebuild the file and manage appeals or fresh applications.

Can my spouse or children come with me?

Depends on destination and level: Australian master's students can bring dependants with work rights; Canada allows spouses of eligible college/university students; UK now restricts dependants to research programmes. We assess per case.

What if my visa is refused even with LGA's help?

We analyse the refusal grounds free of charge and advise honestly whether an appeal or re-application has merit — including cases where waiting a cycle improves odds.

IELTS & PTE

Which test is easier — IELTS or PTE?

Neither is universally easier — fit decides. Computer-comfortable students often prefer PTE's AI scoring; strong conversational speakers may prefer IELTS. Our counsellors will assess your level and recommend the right test and partner institute.

How long does preparation take?

Most students reach target scores in 4–8 weeks of structured training at our partner institutes. Re-attempts chasing a single band often need just 2–3 weeks of focused coaching.

Does LGA run the classes itself?

No — training is delivered by our trusted partner institutes in Nugegoda and online. LGA advises your target score, refers you to the right programme, and tracks your progress until exam day.

Are classes available online?

Yes — partner institutes offer live-streamed classes mirroring their Nugegoda batches, including speaking labs and graded mock exams with feedback.

Process & Payments

When do I pay university tuition — to LGA or the university?

Always directly to the university through official channels — we never hold your tuition money. We guide the transfer and provide receipt documentation for your visa file.

What are LGA's service charges?

Charges vary by package and destination and are quoted transparently in writing before you commit. Many university applications are free under our partner agreements.

Do you help with accommodation and flights?

Yes — pre-departure support includes accommodation guidance (university halls vs shared housing), ticketing advice, insurance and arrival briefings.
